Nature Unleashed includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help elementary students learn about Missouri’s ponds, forests and prairies.
The Discover Nature Schools program, Nature Unleashed, is a program designed to allow elementary students hands-on interactions and understanding of Missouri habitats, food webs, predator/prey relationships, and adaptations. Not only does the program meet the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Missouri Learning Standards, but there are also big benefits for students. A recent study of the program shows that Nature Unleashed increased the amount of time students spent in activities and field experiences outside the classroom.
This workshop is being conducted for high school agricultural science department teachers and students preparing for the district Grassland Evaluation contest. The event will be held at the Bois D Arc educational pond.

Help your students discover what's outside by collecting data and observations of our Missouri ecology of different ecosystems such as prairies, forests and ponds, food chain interactions within those different ecosystems, organism adaptations, and so much much more. All of this is right at your fingertips with our Discover Nature Schools Unleashed Unit designed for 3rd grade to 5th grade students - free to all Missouri teachers.
This workshop was to make teachers at Citizens of the World more comfortable with the Unleashed curriculum. I took them through resources, ways to teach outside and the lessons. I also guided them on how to break up the curriculum between 3-5 grade.
This Discover Nature Unleashed workshop was for 22 students in Professor Christine Li's NR4024 "Foundations of Environmental Education" course. I provided opportunities for students from different backgrounds to learn about conservation education and the outreach they can participate in with their students. In the first session, I covered a brief introduction of myself and the MDC and DNS Education Programs. I also started teaching the Discover Nature Unleashed Curriculum. The second session, was a hands-on outdoor lesson with the Unleashed materials.
