Nature Unleashed includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help elementary students learn about Missouri’s ponds, forests and prairies.

Help your students discover what's outside by collecting data and observations of our Missouri ecology of different ecosystems such as prairies, forests and ponds, food chain interactions within those different ecosystems, organism adaptations, and so much much more. All of this is right at your fingertips with our Discover Nature Schools Unleashed Unit designed for 3rd grade to 5th grade students - free to all Missouri teachers.

This workshop was to make teachers at Citizens of the World more comfortable with the Unleashed curriculum. I took them through resources, ways to teach outside and the lessons. I also guided them on how to break up the curriculum between 3-5 grade.

This Discover Nature Unleashed workshop was for 22 students in Professor Christine Li's NR4024 "Foundations of Environmental Education" course. I provided opportunities for students from different backgrounds to learn about conservation education and the outreach they can participate in with their students. In the first session, I covered a brief introduction of myself and the MDC and DNS Education Programs. I also started teaching the Discover Nature Unleashed Curriculum. The second session, was a hands-on outdoor lesson with the Unleashed materials.

The Discover Nature Schools (DNS) program, Nature Unleashed, is a curriculum of 8 units designed for 3rd-5th grade students to promote understanding of Missouri habitats by exploring food chains and the roles of producers and consumers as well as specialized structures and biotic and abiotic factors. The curriculum supports Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) in science, particularly life science.

Using the school grounds as the "extended" classroom. We will look at the current third and fourth grade units and dovetail the Discover Nature Schools curriculum into place-based OC units.This workshop follows up early afterschool in-service. We will be designing gardens and learning stations; improved class observations and data collecting for science note-booking is the objective. Later we will look at field trip options for comparing the school environment to nearby prairie, wetland and glade habitats.

In-service training for Nature Unleashed; prepping for spring semester's Project Based Learning. Educators looking at science note-booking as the tool for inquiry and presentation prep for student group projects. I will follow up with a ZOOM they set up for four different classes. Teacher team will meet at Neosho National Fish Hatchery for follow up on field trip options.;
