Nature Unhooked includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help middle-school students learn about the role of water in an ecosystem.

Nature Unhooked covers all elements of aquatic ecosystems, from the properties of water molecules to the diversity of aquatic life, and how we conserve and enjoy Missouri’s aquatic ecosystems.

Prior to the workshop - Download or order Nature Unhooked Teacher Guide, Student Guide, and Science Notebook. Review and become familiar with contents. Find one activity you would like to discuss at the workshop.

Nature Unhooked covers all elements of Missouri's aquatic ecosystems, from the properties of water molecules to the diversity of aquatic life.

Nature Unhooked Student Book features illustrations and activities that help middle school students understand, appreciate, and conserve Missouri’s waters. Detailed lessons in the Nature Unhooked Teacher Guide engage students in exploring the properties and effects of water in the environment, interactions in aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of practicing conservation.

Hands on portion will be conducted at Reifsnider Conservation Area Monday, January 11.  Virtual portion will be conducted at a later date to complete Nature Unhooked and DNF certification.

We will use science notebooking and fine tune students' observation skills for south Joplin's watershed and nearby Silver Creek.;

The Discover Nature Schools, Nature Unhooked, is a program for 6th-8th grade teachers. This hands-on, inquiry-based teacher workshop will be an engaging foundation for the Nature Unhooked lessons. The materials are aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. We will discover the local aquatic life and their importance to people and natural communities.

It has already been correlated to both the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards and are designed to work with teachers' needs and existing curriculums.

Nature Unhooked provides educators instruction for teaching students about Missouri's aquatic ecosystems, food webs, fishing, macro invertebrate collection and more. A teacher guide with detailed lesson plans aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards, a student book, and a student science notebook will be provided at no cost.

This workshop is geared for Missouri Middle School and High School Teachers who are looking to engage their students by incorporating information relevant to Missouri habitats into their Biology/Ecology Courses. We will be using activities from the Nature Unhooked and Nature Unbound High School Ecology Curriculum. Grant funding is available for equipment and field experiences.
