The Discover Nature Schools (DNS) program, Nature Unbound, is a curriculum of 9 lessons designed for 9th-12th grade students with engaging, hands-on outdoor learning that focuses on wildlife management, ecology, adaptations, populations, interactions, and biodiversity. The curriculum supports Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) in science, particularly life science. Summative assessments follow each unit. The lessons culminate with a performance-based assessment for which students apply all knowledge and skills learned from the curriculum to create a Natural Resource Management Plan.
Hunter Safety Education Instructor Training / Certification The training / certification is for 6th - high school educators seeking to introduce more outdoor skills to their curriculum while certifying their students in the Missouri Hunters Safety program. All educators attending and seeking HED instructor status must have completed the student portion and have a HED certification number. If you don’t but are interested in becoming a HED instructor, you can take the student portion online off our website mdc.mo.gov.
HED Instructor training for 1 protection Volunteer and 1 part-time hourly employee.
This two-part workshop will be conducted for the Springfield school district. Hunter Education teacher certification workshop will be from 9:00am-noon, teachers must have a Missouri Hunter Education student certification to be instructor certified. The Discover Nature Fishing workshop will be from 1:00pm-3:00pm, teachers will be trained on the 4 DNF lessons. The HED class will include some range time, but all firearms and ammunition will be provided. Pack a lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.
Discover Nature Fishing - Teacher Certification Training
This training is for agriculture teachers during the MVATA summer conference seeking training / certification Discover Nature Fishing Instructor
Participants will be trained in the following areas:
Equipment, casting, and proper fish handling
How to Tie a Knot and bait a Hook
Five Common Missouri Fish-Their Anatomy, Habitat, and Life Cycle
Fishing with Lures and Fishing Regulations
Upon completion of the training schools will be eligible for fishing equipment in order to teach the lessons to their students.
This is a Hunter Education certification training for educators seeking to teach and certify students in their perspective school districts. Participants will need to complete forms 1A and 1B prior to being certified, to recieve these forms email Lyle.whittaker@mdc.mo.gov
