This workshop will cover the Nature Unleashed Pond, Prairie and Forest unit for grades 3-5, including use of the teacher guide, colorful, engaging student books, student-centered and collaborative outdoor investigations and multimedia resources that emphasize science practices and are correlated with the MLS and the NGSS. Procedures for participation in the DNS grant program that provides funding for science equipment, outdoor classrooms and field experiences related to this unit will also be covered.
We will investigate the trees, tree adaptations and different habitats of Missouri in a cross-curricular fashion. Science notebooking from Missouri Dept. of Conservation's Nature Unleashed unit will be a foundation of student discovery. Project Learning Tree is a national, award-winning nature activity classroom guide. The guide makes learning fun, while emphasizing to the students how to think, instead of what to think.
Teachers will investigate the unique habitats and life forms of George Washington Carver's childhood home, using the Missouri Dept of Conservation Discover Nature Schools curriculum.
