Nature Unleashed includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help elementary students learn about Missouri’s ponds, forests and prairies.
The Discover Nature Schools program, Nature Unleashed, is a program designed to allow elementary students hands-on interactions and understanding of Missouri habitats, food webs, predator/prey relationships, and adaptations.
This workshop will prepare educators to teach the hands-on, Missouri Learning Standards Unit designed for grades 3-5. This place based program will provide participating educators with a field tested teacher’s guide, classroom copies of student guides as well as science notebooks. The grant funding associated with this program will provide at least one field trip and supply classroom materials to teach the unit.
We will take a closer and cross-curricular look at Missouri birds using Discover Nature Schools Nature Unleashed curriculum. It is all about habitats and animal adaptations. This teacher workshop will prepare teachers to teach the hands-on, state standards based unit designed for grades 3rd - 5th. The workshop will be held at Walter Woods Conservation Area, 20 minutes from Neosho/10 minutes south of Joplin.

Unleashed workshop for preservice teachers in Lindenwood science methods class
This course will focus on various Missouri’s aquatic habitats, including lakes, wetlands and ponds, as well as the biodiversity living within each ecosystem. It will provide field experiences and hands-on activities that can be used in classroom curriculum strategies. The instructors will guide participants through activities at various grade levels and subject areas to illustrate connections to curriculum, Missouri Learning Standards, and assessment opportunities.

The Discover Nature (DNS) program includes engaging and hands-on outdoor learning featuring Missouri’s flora, fauna and ecosystems. This workshop on Nature Unleashed (for grades 3rd- 5th ) highlights three Missouri ecosystems (Prairie, Pond and Forest). Topics include living/non-living, plant and animal adaptations, predator/prey relationships and food chains/webs of the three ecosystems.
