Nature Unhooked includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help middle-school students learn about the role of water in an ecosystem.

The Discover Nature Schools (DNS) program, Nature Unhooked, is a curriculum of 6 units designed for 6th-8th grade students with hands-on, outdoor learning that focuses on water properties and Missouri aquatic ecosystems including weathering and erosion, food chains, organism roles and interactions, as well as macroinvertebrate sampling, water quality testing, and water pollution engineering. The curriculum is aligned with Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) in science, including life, physical, earth and space, and engineering practices.

This workshop is ONLY for Change Academy Lake Of The Ozarks staff (grades 6-8). Registration deadline is March 29th.

This hands-on, practically applied workshop will engage the participants at all levels. Using the Missouri Learning Standards based Teachers Guide as the foundation, this course will equip educators with the resources to engage their students with exciting project-based learning. We will investigate Missouri’s stream and pond life and other aquatic ecosystem features.

The Discover Nature Schools, Nature Unhooked, is a program for 6th-8th grade teachers. This hands-on, inquiry-based teacher workshop will be an engaging foundation for the Nature Unhooked lessons. The materials are aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. We will discover the local aquatic life and their importance to people and natural communities.

The program includes the follow items at no charge for Missouri Teachers:

Nature Unhooked is the new aquatic unit of the Discover Nature Schools program, and is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Emphasis of this unit is on student-centered and collaborative investigations of the properties of water, water cycle, biotic energy flow, biodiversity, and human impacts on aquatic ecosystems. A Project Based Learning component is also included in this unit. This workshop will cover lessons and activities from the unit as well as an outdoor, experiential approach to student learning. All materials will be provided.
