Nature Revealed includes a teacher guide and cut-out images and puzzles to give Pre-K teachers and parents the planning tools, activities and resources to stimulate children's natural sense of wonder in nearby nature.

This course will provide teachers with a variety of information, activities, materials, and presentations regarding insects: collection techniques, identification, habitat requirements, and survival dilemmas. Participants will examine the role of insects and conduct activities to incorporate inquiry into their curriculum. This course will take place at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center on June 22nd-24th. Two hours of graduate credit are available through Lincoln University. Please inquire if you have questions regarding fees.

Project Learning Tree is an interdisciplinary program designed for both formal and non-formal educators.  It serves as an excellent supplement to the Discover Nature Schools curriculum developed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.  Hands-on activities will be shared and participants will receive the Project Learning Tree Activity Guide.  Other materials will also be handed out.

The Discover Nature Schools (DNS) program provides high quality science units designed to meet the needs of teachers while preparing Missouri's students to become life-long conservationists through hands-on experiences in nature. During this one-day workshop, teachers will learn how to be successful with the DNS unit appropriate to their grade level (Pre-K, K-2, 3-5, 6-8 or 9-12). This workshop fulfills the training requirement for teachers to participate in the DNS Grant Program for funding exploration equipment, outdoor classroom materials, and transportation for field experiences.

The newest curriculum in MDC's Discover Nature Schools program, Nature Revealed is designed for preschool-aged children. Based on the Project Construct framework, the teacher's guide will be provided at the workshop. During the workshop we will explore the teacher's guide and work through examples of the seasonal learning experiences. Please sign-up for this exciting hands-on workshop!

This winter-themed workshop will prepare educators to teach Nature Revealed and Nature Unfolds, two of the instructional units included in the Discover Nature Schools program. Nature Revealed, designed for preschool-aged children, is based on the Project Construct framework and includes a teacher's guide filled with 89 seasonal learning activities. Nature Unfolds is based on grade level expectations for grades K-2 and includes a teacher's guide, as well as a student book and science notebook for every student.

Ever wonder how biologists study fish, forests and wildlife? In this workshop, you’ll learn from the experts! Get immersed in real-life conservation with Conservation Educators and Resource Biologists at five sites in the St. Louis region. Collect and measure fish, track wildlife, sample and identify insects, do bird banding, assess trees to improve forest health and more. You’ll get certified in one of our free Discover Nature - Schools instructional units, which come with funding for classroom materials and field experiences.

Sodalis Nature Preserve (aka. Hannibal’s Bat Cave) is a great destination for education! The area has a fascinating history and an exciting future. Bat Census Executive Director Kirsten Alvey-Mudd will lead a hike along the 2 mile paved trail identifying educational opportunities, discussing how the bat caves were created, and why the area is important to 175,000 endangered bats. After an early lunch participants will gather in historic Downtown Hannibal to discuss the history of the preserve and future citizen science opportunities for the area.
