Nature Unbound

Help your classroom learning take flight!!!! During this workshop, participants will examine some of Missouri’s common backyard birds, as well as our notable game birds, and the habitats in which they live. It will provide field experience and hands-on activities that can be used in classrooms to supplement current curriculum strategies and most importantly, get your students engaged in the best classroom - NATURE! The instructors will guide participants through activities at various grade levels, with emphasis on bird identification and habitat management, and subject areas (science, math, ELA, and even art) to illustrate connections to curriculum, assessment, and citizen science opportunities. This workshop will be held at Duck Creek Conservation Area in the Headquarters building just north of Puxico, MO and nearby conservation areas on July 19-21, 2022.  Participants should plan on long days spent outdoors with frequent breaks to rest and recharge. Wear comfortable clothing in drab colors for better birding and sturdy shoes for hiking. Pack a hat, some sunscreen, and insect repellent. If you have a pair of binoculars, a bird field guide, and a headlamp, bring them. If you don't, we will have some for you to borrow and try out. ***Thursday will include optional Hunter Education training and skills sessions.***   This workshop is offered to educators for no charge.

LODGING - Several lodging options are available in nearby towns of Poplar Bluff and Dexter, MO.

***If you are interested in becoming Hunter Education Certified Instructors, please email us for the required forms to be filled out PRIOR to the workshop so that you are ready to go for training.***
