This Discover Nature School (DNS) program First Grade: Exploring Missouri is designed specifically for First Grade students. This curriculum is aligned to all Missouri Learning Science (MLS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) including the four components of Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, Life Science and Engineering and Technology Science.

Utilizing Nature Unfolds in the Middle School Special Ed Classroom.

And digging into the Lewis and Clark Trunk for remediating Middle School history. 

Discover Nature — Fishing (DNF) engages students in conservation and aquatic education through classroom instruction and hands-on fishing opportunities.

This program helps students gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own. Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fish habitat, and fish identification. They also learn about fishing equipment, casting, rigging a fishing rod, baiting a hook, and proper fish handling.

For pre-service HLGU teachers. 

Training for teachers who want to become hunter education instructors and teach as part of their school curriculum. 

Fishing is a great way engage students in outdoor pursuits and in learning about conservation. The Discover Nature Fishing (DNF) unit can be integrated into school curriculum to provide instruction that helps students gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own. DNF students learn about fishing equipment, casting, rigging a fishing rod, baiting a hook, and proper handling of fish. They learn about fish identification, fish habitat, and how to stock a basic tackle box.

Participants will be trained in the following areas:

  • Equipment, casting, and proper fish handling
  • How to Tie a Knot and bait a Hook
  • Five Common Missouri Fish-Their Anatomy, Habitat, and Life Cycle
  • Fishing with Lures and Fishing Regulations

Upon completion of the training schools will be eligible for fishing equipment in order to teach the lessons to their students. We will be outside during casting activities (dress appropriately).
