This workshop introduces educators to the MDC Discover Nature Schools program, including its grade‑appropriate instructional units and the practical strategies that bring them to life. Participants will explore effective outdoor teaching techniques, learn how to integrate science notebooks to support three‑dimensional learning, and gain a guided overview of the key tools and functions available through the MDC Teacher Portal.
The Discover Nature Fishing (DNF) program helps students gain the skills and confidence to go fishing on their own. Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fish habitat, and fish identification. They also learn about fishing equipment, casting, rigging a fishing rod, baiting a hook, and proper fish handling.

During this professional development training, educators will be introduced to the Discover Nature Fishing curriculum and learn how to confidently teach fishing skills, aquatic stewardship, and conservation ethics to their students. Participants will explore lesson structure, teaching strategies, and ways to safely and effectively conduct fishing activities with youth while meeting Missouri Learning Standards.
