Discover how to sign up for teacher workshops to gain certifications in Discover Nature Schools curriculums, Hunter Education, Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program and Discover Nature – Fishing. Through these workshops teachers will qualify for grant money to purchase equipment, pay for field trip transportation, and have access to all the free teaching materials available through the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Teacher Portal.
Nature Unhooked is the middle school aquatic unit of the Discover Nature Schools program. It is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Nature Unhooked is student-centered and has collaborative investigations on the properties of water, water cycle, biotic energy flow, biodiversity, and human impacts on aquatic ecosystems. A Project Based Learning component is also included in this unit.
**This is a virtual training for Southeast Missouri Teachers. This training is limited to the following counties since supplies and materials will be hand delivered to the school district/building approximately 1 week before the virtual training date. Counties: Bollinger, Butler, Dunklin, Stoddard, Wayne, Perry, Ste. Genevieve, Saint Francois, Iron, Madison, Cape Girardeau, Scott, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot.

Missouri's waters move through living and nonliving systems and binds them together in a complex web of life. This is a hands-on educator course suitable for homeschool parents, youth leaders and teachers. We will be in the nature center's classroom and outside! It's a day of fun learning. Project WET gives us field tested activities for formal and non-formal educators of children from K through high school.
Unhooked training for PBJHS teachers
Learn ways to help your students discover Missouri ecology in this one-day teacher workshop at Shaw Nature Reserve. The typically two-day workshop will be condensed into a one-day, extended training covering our Nature Unleashed (designed for 3rd grade to 5th grade students) and Nature Unhooked (designed for 6th grade to 8th grade students) units. During the workshop, teachers will become familiar with Missouri’s prairie, forest and aquatic ecosystems through hands-on, outdoor activities.
