Nature Unhooked
Nature Unhooked includes a student book, science notebook, and teacher guide to help middle-school students learn about the role of water in an ecosystem.
This workshop is for MSU students ONLY!
Nature Unhooked Student Book features illustrations and activities that help middle school students understand, appreciate, and conserve Missouri’s waters. Detailed lessons in the Nature Unhooked Teacher Guide engage students in exploring the properties and effects of water in the environment, interactions in aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of practicing conservation.
The Discover Nature Schools, Nature Unhooked, is a program for 6th-8th grade teachers. This hands-on, inquiry-based teacher workshop will be an engaging foundation for the Nature Unhooked lessons. The materials are aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. We will discover the local aquatic life and their importance to people and natural communities.

This is part 2 of a 2 part certification training for the 6th grade science department of Hancock Place Middle School. Also attending is the new Conservation Education Assistant (CEA) over seeing Discover Nature Fishing - Schools in the St. Louis Region
This outdoor, on-site, workshop includes assessing field experience locations and logistical planning for managing student groups through data collection rotations including macro-invertebrate collection, abiotic and water chemistry, watershed assessment, and fish population sampling using rod and reel equipment.
Nature Unhooked is the middle school level aquatic unit of the Discover Nature Schools program and is aligned with the Missouri Learning Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Emphasis of this unit is on student-centered and collaborative investigations of the properties of water, water cycle, biotic energy flow, biodiversity, and human impacts on aquatic ecosystems. A Project Based Learning component is also included in this unit. This workshop will cover lessons and activities from the unit as well as an outdoor, experiential approach to student learning.
Private Workshop for Clarkton Elementary Teachers
Learn ways to help your students discover Missouri ecology in this one-day teacher workshop at Rockwoods Reservation Visitor Center. The typically two-day workshop will be condensed into a one-day training covering our Nature Unleashed (designed for 3rd grade to 5th grade students) and Nature Unhooked (designed for 6th grade to 8th grade students) units.
