Nature Revealed and Unfolds Workshop

Teachers will receive training in Nature Revealed (Pre School unit) and Nature Unfolds (K-2nd unit) of the Discover Nature Schools curriculum. These curriculum guides are filled with activities for students from preschool-aged thru 2nd grade. The teacher guide is aligned to Missouri Learning Standards and will be provided at the workshop.

Project WET: Water Eduction for Teachers

Teachers of all grade levels are welcome to attend. Participants will learn about an exciting curriculum that focuses on Conserving Missouri’s Aquatic Ecosystems and about Project WET (Water Education for Teachers.)

Discover Nature Schools-Nature Revealed

Discover Nature Schools - Nature Unbound

This workshop will prepare educators to teach the hands-on, Course Level Expectations-based Unit designed for high school students.  This place based curriculum will provide participating educators a field tested teacher’s guide and classroom copies of a well presented student guide and science notebook.   The grant funding associated with this program will provide at least one field trip and supplies for teaching this unit.

Bring your own lunch; soft drinks will be provided.

Hunter Education has reduced hunting incidents and deaths by more than 70 percent since it became mandatory in 1987. The Hunter Education Program provides a foundation in hunter responsibility and ethics; how firearms work and firearm safety; wildlife identification and game care; survival and first aid; firearm-handling skills and hunting techniques; and awareness about wildlife conservation and management.

If you would like to implement the hunter education program into your in-school curriculum, this is the course for you. Join us for a one-day hunter education class that will include how to teach both the classroom and skills sessions to your students.

Discover Nature Schools-MONASP Basic Archery Instructor Certification

Date: Wed, 06/22/2016 - 1:30pm to 10:00pm

The Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) training is for teachers who wish to teach Missouri's National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP). Volunteers other than teachers will need to gain approval for their attendance from their prospective school before registration. This approval, in the form of a letter, should state that their certification is needed to implement the two-week unit being taught during the school day. Volunteers wishing to attend should e-mail this to me prior to registration. Participants must attend the entire session to become certified. Lunch will not be provided, however, there will be a 30-minute lunch break. This is a free training class. Successful participants receive Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) certification through the National Archery in the Schools Program(NASP). Applicants can register online by visiting http://naspbai.org/. Insect Inquiry Teacher Workshop

Date: Wed, 06/22/2016 - 2:00pm to 9:00pm

This course will provide teachers with a variety of information, activities, materials, and presentations regarding insects: collection techniques, identification, habitat requirements, and survival dilemmas. Participants will examine the role of insects and conduct activities to incorporate inquiry into their curriculum. This course will take place at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center on June 22nd-24th. Two hours of graduate credit are available through Lincoln University. Please inquire if you have questions regarding fees.

Discover Nature- Fishing Teacher Training

Date: Thu, 06/23/2016 - 2:00pm to 9:00pm

To expand outdoor skill opportunities for Missouri schools, the Missouri Department of Conservation has developed a fishing education program, Discover Nature--Fishing (DNF). A summer teacher training to become a DNF instructor will be held at the St. Louis Regional Office located at the August A. Busch Conservation Area in St. Charles. The Discover Nature--Fishing training will give you the knowledge and skill to teach the fishing unit to your students as well as answer any questions you may have about the program. In addition, your school will be given the necessary equipment to implement the program.

Project Learning Tree Workshop

Date: Tue, 06/28/2016 - 2:00pm to 9:00pm

Project Learning Tree is an interdisciplinary program designed for both formal and non-formal educators.  It serves as an excellent supplement to the Discover Nature Schools curriculum developed by the Missouri Department of Conservation.  Hands-on activities will be shared and participants will receive the Project Learning Tree Activity Guide.  Other materials will also be handed out.
